from the wild and romantic Gasterntal over the pastures and the selected glaciers to Lötschenpass
The starting point for this hike can be reached from Kandersteg with the taxi bus. This must be reserved under the number 0041 (0) 33 671 11 71 . After a 25-minute drive through the impressive Gasterntal the bus stops at Hotel Steinbock in Selden (1550 m ü. M.). Here branches off the well-marked trail and cross the Kander over a suspension bridge. In one hour, 300 altitude meters to Gfellalp (1845 m above sea level. M.) are manageable via switchbacks. The trail climbs further up the pastures and reaches the Läckboden, a plane with an impressive view of the valley and its cliffs.
Now follows the rise under the east wall of the Balmhorn and almost to Balme at 2400 m above sea level, which is reached after about 2 1/2 hours from Selden. The following is a brief crossing the moraine of the glacier, which is well marked by poles and is crossed. The trail continues on the opposite moraine and follow it in a southerly direction to a rocky recovery. During the last 45 minutes are some steep sections to master in rocky terrain, these places are secured with steel ropes. The hikers are rewarded according to the strict rise now with the views of the Valais four-thousand, and finally the hut comes in sight and is reached in a few minutes.
