the easiest winter ascent with fantastic views
The starting point of this ascent can be reached by cable car from Wiler, chair lift and gondola. For the transfer with the transport systems of Wiler to Hockenhorngrat you need to calculate 40 minutes. From the mountain station Hockenhorngrat leads the climb over an often committed snowshoe trail and ski track in a westerly direction. Here you cross under the Hockenhorn the first big slope and reaches an edge. Then you cross a second slope and reaches the transition between the Little and the Great Hockenhorn.
Now the trail leads through to the north side of Little Hock horn. Next you go always slightly downhill on the broad back westward until after about 1500 m meters a collection of distinctive boulders appear. From here you can see the hut about 200 vertical feet below. The trail now leaves the back in a southerly direction and traverses a beautiful hillside. This slope turns into a plane over which the Lötschenpasshütte is reached after about 400 meters in a westerly direction.
