Short film about archaeology and art
The artists will join us at the Loetschenpass Hut for premiere of the film and archaeologist Regula Gubler, who leads the work on the Loetschenpass site, will give a short talk about the archaeology at the site.
Les Vestiges
Les Vestiges is a short film by British artists Rebecca Birch and Sarah Casey about the precarity of glacial archaeology, explored through heat-sensitive drawings that react to environmental conditions, amplifying invisible elements that affect the ice and archaeology such as heat, wind, erosion. The film was shot in Valais and Bern in 2023, including at the archaeological site at the Loetschenpass where artefacts as old as 3000 years have melted out of retreating ice. Narrated using excerpts of interviews with archaeologists Pierre-Yves Nicod and Regula Gubler, Les Vestiges follows Casey’s work with these archologists, using synergies between the precarity of drawing , archaeology and the ice in which it has been preserved to reflect on human entanglements in stories of geological and environmental change in high mountain areas.

The exact start of the season depends on snow and weather conditions and will be communicated on the website under “Conditions”.
Our stargazer bed is winter-proof and the place is covered in deep snow – but it will be available again in summer 2024.
The star bed (a double bed) is located a few meters in front of the Lötschenpasshütte in the open air and offers a unique view of the mountain peaks of the Valais and the small lake.
It is equipped with:
- cozy blankets
- warm bed bottles
- modern infrastructure with toilets and showers in the hut
If it is cold or bad weather conditions, two beds are reserved in the shared room in the mountain hut.
Book an unforgettable night at 2700m under millions of stars and with an unobstructed view on the Bietschhorn and the Valais four-thousanders. The booking platform will be open from the beginning of January 2024.
