Approaches often walked, hut open
Updated: 9. October 2024

Approaches over the weekend from both Gasterntal and Lötschental are often used. From the Gasterntal from about 2400m frozen in places. From Kummenalp and Lauchernalp up to approx. 2500 km snow-free, above it is still partly little snow, but well groomed.  Easy to walk on with good footwear. Hockenhorn has not been made for several days, Gitzifurgge also snow-covered. We will be there for you until the beginning of November and are looking forward to the golden autumn. There are still free places on all days.

Paths are currently snow-covered from about 2000m, with 20-30cm of snow in places. Access from Selden/Gasterntal and from Kummenalp/Lötschental has been walked and tracked several times. Access from Lauchernalp is still untracked. Appropriate equipment (sturdy hiking boots, poles) is recommended. With the nice weather, the snow melts quickly. Approaches are regularly used, snow fields from 2450m
Updated: 27. June 2024

The approach from Gasterntal is followed regularly, there is no snow up to the glacier, the crossing over the glacier is marked and tracked. The climb from the glacier is partly snow-covered, but well-traveled. Approaches from Lötschental: from both Lauchernalp and Kummenalp from approx. 2450m there are still individual old snow fields,  in the steeper snow sections paths have been shoveled or can be bypassed. Ascent to the Hockenhorn completely in snow, frozen hard in the morning, crampons recommended for the summit slope. Gitzigrat on Balmhorn not yet climbed this season, large cornices on the connecting ridges between the towers.
